NYI BIBLE QUIZZING GOES TO THE WIRE

The NYI final quiz competition rocked the house on Thursday afternoon as the Southwest USA Region faced off against the Asia-Pacific Region in a down-to-the-wire A Division competition. After a fast and furious battle, Southwest USA came from behind to end the day in first place. Northwest USA and Central USA tied for third behind the Asia-Pacific regional team.
Central USA took first place in the B Division, followed by Eastern USA in second place and Southwest USA and Northwest USA in a tie for third.
The top six quizzers in the A division earned scholarships to the Nazarene college or university of their choice. Scholarships were awarded to

  • Erica Rumbley, Central USA;
  • Rebekah Radcliffe, Asia-Pacific;
  • Jessica Mellor, North Central USA;
  • Jeff Faville, Northwest USA;
  • Julie Hodsdon, Eastern USA; and
  • Matt White, Eastern USA.

Caribbean quizzer Joel Greene, 21, finished among the top 15 individual quizzers. He said, "I began quizzing three years ago. The most important thing about Bible quizzing is that it has helped in my personal relationship with God because the words I hide within my heart [have] helped transform my life. Application of God's Word to your life is the work that is done to completion-not just hearing the Word, but doing the Word."
The General NYI Convention Bible quizzing event continued Saturday morning with a meeting of the global Quiz Advisory Council. Some of the quizzers promoted NYI quizzing to their younger counterparts by demonstrating teen quizzing during the
Children's World Quiz on Saturday afternoon.
